Granddaddy Purple is a California classic bred from Purple Urkle and Big Bud genetics, representing one of the defining lines in the purple strain category.
The plant grows short, bushy, and dense, with a compact Indica structure. Buds are large, rounded, and firm, forming substantial colas with deep purple and violet coloring. Broad, dark green leaves provide a backdrop for bright orange hairs and a heavy coating of white crystal resin.
The flavor is smooth and full bodied, led by sweet grape and berry notes with a candy-like quality. The finish carries earthy, slightly pungent character with subtle herbal notes and a lingering grape aftertaste.
This is a moderately easy strain to grow, with a compact stature well suited to indoor setups with limited height. Plants respond well to training techniques like low-stress training and topping, which help maximize light penetration and yield. Given the density of the buds, extra support may be needed during late flowering, along with close humidity monitoring to prevent mold. Growing in super soil with organic nutrients and exposing plants to cooler night temperatures late in flowering can help bring out deeper purple coloring.
Granddaddy Purple finishes flowering in approximately 65 days. Indoors, plants stay manageable at around 100 cm and yield roughly 600 g/m². Outdoors, plants can reach up to 180 cm and yield up to 1000 g per plant, with harvest around mid-October.
